A recent study found that a blood test for cognitive decline has a high accuracy rate in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease. The test, which combines two blood biomarkers, measures the levels of tau protein 217 and amyloid proteins. Primary care doctors had a 61% accuracy rate in diagnosing Alzheimer’s, while neurologists and other memory specialists had a 73% accuracy rate. The blood test, if validated, could revolutionize the speed and accuracy of Alzheimer’s diagnosis and enable faster access to new treatments. However, further research is needed, and the test is not yet available for routine use.
