Odysseus has successfully landed on the moon thanks to the quick actions of ground engineers and NASA’s experimental instrument. Before landing, it was discovered that certain navigation equipment on the vehicle was not functioning properly. However, engineers were able to use NASA’s Navigation Doppler Lidar (NDL) payload, which includes two lasers, as a substitute for the malfunctioning equipment. The NDL allowed Odysseus to bypass the broken pieces and successfully complete its lunar touchdown.
